North Ray Yoga

North Ray Yoga (previously Modo Yoga LA) is a yoga studio and brand focused on an authentic, grounded, and community-driven approach to practice. We worked with their founders, Alice Toyonaga and Emily Morwen, at a pivotal time, where they transitioned from being part of a global corporate franchise to creating their own standalone business entity and brand.

This was an opportunity to create a brand that truly reflected their authentic selves, their vision, and the community they have built over the past decade.

The result:
A name that symbolizes guidance (North, like a compass/North Star) and light (Ray, inspired by the studio's skylights). The core idea is "how the light gets in," a nod to finding comfort, hope, and peace even in challenging moments.
A brand identity that feels majestic yet grounded, with quirky details – which aligns beautifully with their focus on presence over perfection.
An expansive brand system that allows the brand to grow. And a website where everything is gathered for both new and existing clients.
